Short Term Grants for the year 2020/2021

Short Term grants exclusively include the reimbursement of travel expenses between the hometown and Bayreuth as well as accommodation costs in Bayreuth. The costs will be refunded up to a maximum of 3,500 €. Up to five Short Term Grants are available to researchers regardless of their field of research.

International Excellence – Programme Goals

The Centre supports academic exchange across existing boundaries: between disciplines, between different cultures and countries, between established and younger researchers. Applicants are encouraged to learn about the University of Bayreuth’s focus areas and research strengths.

Experience Bayreuth Collaboration with Local Host

We invite the Short Term Grantees to carry out their own research projects in cooperation with a local host at the UBT. Prior to submission of the application, applicants are required to contact a host in Bayreuth well in advance to discuss and develop a joint research project. The local hosts provide their grantees with modern office and lab space and an up-to-date infrastructure. Applications are welcome from all disciplines.

Application Requirements

We award the Short Term Grants to individuals from abroad with challenging and innovative research projects of top academic quality through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. The all-important selection criteria are the academic excellence of both the applicant and the cooperative project. For more information on the application and selection process (required documents, guidelines on eligibility, evaluation criteria, timeline and stages of the selection process) see Application Guidelines for Short Term Grants.

Strategic Scientific Workshops

International Excellence – Programme Goals

The Centre supports academic exchange across existing boundaries: between disciplines, between different cultures and countries, between established and younger researchers. All Strategic Scientific Workshops are expected to deepen existing or establish new ties with international researchers from abroad with a clear objective to create sustainable pioneering research networks.

Experience Bayreuth Collaboration with Strategic Partners

The Centre aims to strengthen excellent research as exemplified in its Focus Areas. We invite senior faculty members    from UBT to cooperate with at least one international partner institution to submit a joint application for a subject-specific workshop with well-defined scientific and strategic objectives. The latter includes, for example, the development of sustainable scientific or teaching collaborations with international institutions, e.g. from the University’s strategic hubs or key regions. Support for each workshop is subject to an event’s complexity and partner location and may be granted up to 20,000 EUR.

Application Requirements

We award the Strategic Scientific Workshops to applicants from UBT with challenging and innovative research projects of top academic quality through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. The all-important selection criteria are the academic excellence of the applicants and of the proposed cooperative workshop, as well as the strategic significance and sustainability of the endeavour. The workshops need to be conducted at Bayreuth for a minimum of two days to allow for networking opportunities on site. For more information on the application and selection process, see our Application Guidelines for Strategic Scientific Workshops.
